E2020

E2020(Donepezi or Aricepta) is an experimental drug currently being evaluated in individuals with Alzheimer's disease to determine if it can alleviate some symptoms. Donepezil will not cure Alzheimer's disease.

What is E2020 ?

E2020 is the second generation of cholinesterase inhibitor which approved by the FDA in November 1996. Previously known as E2020 in clinical trials, and now known as donepezil.

How can E2020 treat AD ?

Donepezil is a specific inhibitor of acetylcholinesterase (AChE). Research has shown that there is not enough acetylcholine in the brains of individuals with Alzheimer's disease. It is hoped that by inhibiting the AChE that limits acetylcholine, higher concentrations may be available in the brain, possibly producing improvement in the symptoms of Alzheimer's disease.
