How to Use this COSSET

For Instructors and Staff

Instructors and staff in HKUST who are interested in using COSSET can contact ETC ( Mr. Tak S. Ha, x6812). At the moment, consideration is given to use COSSET on a campus wide basis in the coming 1998/99 Spring Semester. A formal announcement will probably be made soon.

As for staff in other local or overseas HEIs who are interested in COSSET, you are welcome to contact us ( ettsha@ust.hk). We will try our best to assist you in setting up a similar system in your institute.

For Students in HKUST

If one of the courses you are studying is using COSSET for its end-of-semester evaluation, you will be able to complete your ourse evaluation on the Web. Below are instructions on how to access COSSET.

Instructions for accessing COSSET

1) To use COSSET to do the course evaluation, you need to have Internet access. You can use any campus computer ( in computer barns, computer labs, or express station ). If you are using a computer at home, you have to dial in through a modem to log on to the university network or to an Internet Service Provider.

2) Activate an Internet browser such as Netscape or Internet Explorer and go to the following Web-site:

http://teaching.ust.hk/etc/cosset/

You will then be asked to enter your CCST username and password. Your username is just the first part of your email address before the @ sign. For instance, if your email address is "xycck@ust.hk", then your username is "xycck". Your password is the same one you use for checking email.

3) You should then see the opening page of COSSET which will automatically take you to the HKUST Course Evaluation home page. Please read the information carefully before you do the course evaluation. For detailed instructions on how to do the evaluation using COSSET, please click "Instructions" at the top of the COSSET home page.

4) Courses are usually open for evaluation at Week 13 to 14 of each semester. You will be notified by email the exact time period during which you should do the course evaluation using COSSET.

5) If you come across any technical problems using COSSET, please send us an email at eteval@ust.hk any time.

IMPORTANT NOTES

When you access COSSET, you are asked to enter your CCST username and password. However, such information will NOT be transmitted to the system database which stores your responses to the course evaluation questionnaire. Practically speaking, you can consider this course evaluation anonymous.
No one will see the course evaluation results until the final examination grades have been submitted.
