Course Outline

I.                    Week 1 - Synopsis

1. Brief Intro (5 Minutes)
2. Professor discusses GDP including Inflation Adjustment (20 minutes) Notes
3. Students Meet, Write Down 3 Reasons GDP is not a perfect measure of welfare (15 minutes) [Group of 6-7]
4. Students Present 1 Reason and a case for why it is important [Talk for 5-10 Minutes, Present Case for 3 Minutes per Group]
5. Professor Discusses PPP GDP adjustment if time (5 minutes).

E.      Break (5 min).

6. Professor presents Country Analysis Framework, Put it into the Framework of Hong Kong. [Remainder of Class] Notes  Raw Data: Hong Kong

Assignment: Meet with Group of 6 and Create Presentation on Ireland, Strategy or Context

3. Synthesize (10-15 minutes for homework, 1 typed page) Assignment: Write 1-2 synopsis of Irish growth miracle 1987 to 2007.

Break

1. Discussion of Country Performance (30 minutes, Groups of 6-7) Assignment   Data: OECD Statistical  Outlook
2. Presentation of Performance (24 minutes)
3. Discussion of Ireland in Recent Period (10 Minutes)
4. Hong Kong Country Analysis (as time). Presentation

Assignment: Meet with Group of 6 and Create Presentation on a Particular Country, Strategy or Context
